Broccoli Rabe & Sun Dried Tomato Orecchiette

This Broccoli Rabe & Sun Dried Tomato Orecchiette was the child of a promise we made to ourselves this year. 2018: the year we stick with trying new, wholesome, fresh foods – cooking them in different ways. Or simply enjoying raw. One way we are accomplishing this is by enrolling in one of our local Farmers Market CSA programs. We were part of one in the Fall and really enjoyed the weekly pick-up, excited to discover what that weeks harvest was. By having ingredients like fresh ginger, mushrooms, watermelon radish, kohlrabi, bok choy, chili peppers, amongst more familiar fresh greens and squash, it forced us to think outside the box.…

    Asparagus, Artichoke, & Quinoa Salad

This asparagus, artichoke, & quinoa salad was perfect after this weekend. Coming off a long weekend of single parenting a one year old is no joke. I was also sick, so there’s that. BUT! I am so very thankful for flippin’ fantastic friends who literally went out of their way to get my prescription, offer to help with Harlow, and continually check in on me. All of that to say: I’m tired. But most likely you are, too. That’s all part of parenting/living/working/hustling/all of the things. I’m still drinking coffee and it’s late afternoon. . . also notice Harlow’s cute hand creeping in the picture. She was my photography helper,…

Grandma Grace’s Downy Yellow Butter Cake

This is IT: Grandma Grace’s Downy Yellow Butter Cake. Make it, file this under “special recipes” and keep it forever. That’s what I’m doing. Maybe this will be a new birthday tradition – me making Harlow my Grandmother Grace’s cake. Yeah, I think that sounds nice. As I sit down to write this post, I realize that I don’t have any photographs of my Grandma, which makes me feel like I’m missing something inside. And a bit sad as some of my earliest life memories were of making food in her kitchen. Her kitchen in Indian Brook – with it’s classical music playing softly in the background from this tiny…

    Harlow’s First Birthday

Harlow’s FIRST Birthday. Our Harlow Louise. The little girl who forever changed our world. Sometimes I can’t believe I am actually a parent. Like how did that happen? I mean, I know how it happened … humph. But if I am being completely honest, I never thought I was going to be a mom. I toyed around with the idea that, yea maybe, I would/could, but with my age slowly creeping towards mid-thirties I accepted that it wasn’t in the cards for me. Then it happened. I became a mom on March 28, 2017 to the most perfect, beautiful, amazing baby girl. My universe expanded. My heart exploded. I was…

I’ve been fascinated with reading cookbooks (recipes in general for that matter) for about as long as I can remember. I love diving deep into the cookbook pages, even if I don’t make a single recipe from it, they’re LOADED with food inspiration. Obviously. And I feel weird admitting that – that I like to read cookbooks – although I KNOW I’m not the only one who loves it. I’ve recently discovered a dear friends wife has the same passion. We had a good conversation about “America’s Test Kitchen”; geeking out over the ingredients. That might be my next read… Here are a few that I am into at the…
